Karl Kimbrough began his film career in his mid 20s. Starting high school in El Paso, Texas and then graduating high school 1988 in Lawton, Oklahoma Karl learned to move and to make friends quickly. Unlike most filmmakers his interest in film began vary late as a result of his obsession with music.Originally Karl attended film school in Texas, however he began his goal in music department on full scholarship as a singer and music producer. He produced one album with 53 Large Men and after a small stint the college rep for Sony Music, he then sat with good friends and watched Raging Bull and quickly decided that was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life, he wished to tell stories. He suddenly turned to cinema and fell in love with what he called "alternative cinema." He was driven by the likes of Fellini, Goddard, Scorsese, Egoyan, Roeg, Coen Brothers, and even Lucas & Spielberg.Growing up as a military brat he finds and earns the trust of friends quickly and instantly he and others formed a group of filmmakers while in the film school at the University of North Texas. That group of friends and Karl's film brother, King Hollis went on to produce 7 short films, and 2 features during college and just after graduating with his bachelors degree in 2005. He then formed a non-profit group NTFS to fund a personal documentary FRY and then later went off with King to aid others in building a local film festival in Deep Ellum that is now paramount to Texas filmmakers.All the while, he gravitated to commercials and he began working for various production companies throughout Dallas as an editor at first and then merged on to the scene as a young spirited director. Karl, now proficient in editing for over 12 years has cut on many motion pictures and has recently been the principal editor on the cult film _Fat Girls (2005)_ . Because of the demand in the Dallas Texas market, his producer Raymond Martin demanded he learn to shoot, and as a result he embraced every camera and is now a sturdy and respectable Cinematographer in all formats.Karl continues to direct and shoot spots for agencies such as The Richards Group, Moroch and Associates, Bernstein-Rein, DDB Needham, Hothaus Creative, Leo Burnett, Belo, and more; moreover, he has won several regional Emmy's for his commercial work. In fact, recently his collaboration as Director on the short film, Life by the Drop (2004) with Raygun Films in Texas, has earned him the audience award at the Deep Ellum Film Festival.After moving to Los Angeles in 2000, he founded Alter Ego Films, Inc and went on to direct Wal-Mart, McDonalds, and Comedy Central's "Man Show" Campaigns. He most recently has embarked on several feature film projects, two live action and one animated. And he has co-written an animated feature film, Laika: Firt In Space with long time friend and producer, Robert C. Handy which is now in preproduction for 2007. Karl has also been slated to direct The Road To Marfa Lights with Raygun Films, Inc. 2006-07.
