A.J. Lewis / Biography

A.J. Lewis, Jr., 27, was born and raised in Needham, Massachusetts, home to the Emmy and Peabody Award winning ABC affiliate WCVB-TV. From a very early age, Lewis drew inspiration from the homegrown TV series Chronicle, one of the few remaining locally produced primetime magazine shows. As a teenager A.J. began his television career by creating the TV magazine "Knightline" and a daily live show called "Knightly News" that featured a mix of news, educational and sports entertainment targeted towards students at Catholic Memorial High School in Boston, MA. Lewis' involvement in CMTV was instrumental in creating a Broadcast Journalism course into the school's college prep curriculum. As an undergraduate at Harvard College, Lewis earned his BA in Environmental Science and Public Policy while producing the TV newsmagazine "Crimson Edition" and interning for New England's most-watched news broadcast, NewsCenter5 at 6. Lewis was also two time captain of Harvard's Division I men's volleyball team.Upon graduation, he relocated overseas to Madrid, Spain where he taught first grade, high school biology, economics, and instructed educators on how to integrate technology into the learning environment.Pursuing his passion for television development and production, Lewis moved to Los Angeles in 2000 and found a home at David E. Kelley Productions, where in addition to writing original copy for the series "Boston Public" on FOX.COM, he helped oversee the implementation of emerging technologies on the Emmy Award winning series "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice."While a graduate student in the MFA Producers Program at UCLA, A.J. helped to create, develop and produce the nationally broadcast series "ucla:next," a student-produced lifestyle magazine show. Lewis also produced and directed the UCLA Anderson School of Management recruiting video. A recipient of the Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme Scholarship for artistic and academic merit, Lewis interned in comedy development at 20th Century Fox Television where he assisted executives in developing The Simple Life and the Emmy Award winning Arrested Development. Lewis also demonstrated his versatility by appearing on-camera in the role of Judge #5 in Jennifer Lopez's 2003 music video "I'm Glad," an homage to the infamous movie classic "Flashdance."Lewis next took aim at the AMC original series "Sunday Morning Shootout" where he assisted former Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Peter Guber in developing and launching the groundbreaking show that explores the chasm between art and commerce in the movie business. As Associate Producer on 'Shootout,' Lewis produced the series' Emmy campaign and launched several grassroots initiatives to promote the series off-network.
