Cady is committed to charity work, has been a member of the Junior Board of the Enterprise Foundation and also worked with RARE to develop a radio soap opera for the Wildward Islands of the Carribean. She is devoted to helping New Orleans recover.
In 2002, daytime viewers were shocked to see McClain's performance and transition from "All My Children" (1970) to "As the World Turns" (1956) from the beloved role of "AMC"'s 'innocent' Dixie Cooney to "ATWT"'s 'bitchy' Rosanna Cabot. For 13 years, fans were always use to her familiar role as a heroine to a villain. When she departed "AMC", she posted a letter on Soap Opera Central online telling her "All My Children" fans to go and watch her on "As The World Turns". AMC and ATWT are network rival soaps. Months later on "ATWT", she earned an emmy nomination for "Outstanding Supporting Actress", but unfortunately her character on "AMC", was killed off ending the popular Tad and Dixie romance.
Although she left "All My Children" (1970) several years ago, A stock image of her as "Dixie Martin" appears on the opening titles to the show.
Her status with "As the World Turns" (1956) is considered somewhat unusual. When she joined the show in 2002, the role of Rosanna Cabot was a recurring role. However she became so popular with fans, "ATWT" tried to get her to sign a contract. She refused, but the show still continued to feature her prominently, which is usually not the case for recurring characters. She even won the 2004 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Shortly before that, she finally agreed to sign a one-year contract with "ATWT". That deal has now expired, and she has once again decided to go back to recurring status. Rumors have also started back up again that she is returning to "All My Children" (1970) to play Dixie, however she denies that.
Cady returned to "All My Children" (1970) in 2006 to create a new dynamic with fans through her blog, "Confessions of a Mad Soap Star," at www.cadysconfessions.com, as well as other innovative audience interactions.
