Liam O Mochain / Biography

Liam began training as an actor in 1991 with Geasog Theatre company in Ireland and toured with their production of Lorca's 'The Butterfly's Evil Spell' which won 8 international theatre awards, including best actor for Liam at the Cabinteely Youth International Drama Awards. He subsequently trained with Galway Youth Theatre also in Ireland, and performed in their productions of 'Not the School Around the Corner', 'Diarmuid and Gráinne', and 'Heroes'.He made his screen debut in 1996 as Joe Heaney in the award winning drama documentary, Joe Heaney: Sing the Dark Away for RTÉ Television (national TV broadcaster in Ireland). The film screened at numerous film festivals worldwide and co-starred Maureen O Sullivan (Tarzan, Hannah and Her Sisters), Pete Seeger and Liam Clancy. In the same year Liam starred in the award winning short film Fortune(1996) co- starring with Maire Stafford (Felica's Journey) and John Anthony Murphy (Angela's Ashes, Gangs of New York) and in 1999 in the critically acclaimed independent feature film The Book That Wrote Itself, which featured cameos from George Clooney, Kenneth Branagh, Chazz Palaminteri and Melanie Griffith amongst others. He has also played roles in the BBC four-part drama series Family (1994/I) directed by michael winterbottom and the hit movie Circle of Friends (1995). Liam has guest starred on Film 2001 with Jonathan Ross (BBC) and Daily Edition (MTV).Liam made his feature film debut as a writer/director/producer on The Book That Wrote Itself. The film made its international premiere at the 1999 Vancouver international Film Festival and went on to screen to critical acclaim at a further 20 international film festivals in 15 countries. The film was released in Ireland in 2000, the UK in 2001 and the US in 2004. The Book That Wrote Itself has won three awards including The Lodgers Award for best film at the 1999 Austin Film Festival. Liam wrote and produced the short film Fortune, which screened at numerous film festivals world-wide and won a Best short film award at the 1998 Worldfest Houston international Film Festival. Liam has directed/produced more than 20 documentaries and TV shows for RTÉ and TG4 (National TV broadcasters in Ireland) and the Film Institute of Ireland. Contributors to his documentaries and TV shows include Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt, Ian Hart, Pierce Brosnan, Stephen Fry, Rosie Perez , Ewen Bremner, Linus Roache and Sean Astin.
