Gabriel was born in New Jersey, U.S.A on August 13, 1973 one year after his father, who is Mexican, had been transferred by the company he worked for. Since grade school, Gabriel showed a passion for everything related to creating. At the age of 8, Gabriel and his family moved back to Mexico. On this long road trip, Gabriel discovered his fathers' 8mm camera and at that moment knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He wrote, shot, starred in and directed his first home movie at the age of 13. His parents, although being from a business background, supported and motivated his enthusiasm leading Gabriel to a bachelor degree in communication. Although his passion was directing, during this time he had intense affairs with advertising, television, photography and radio. After graduating he left to New York City to study film at NYU as well as directing courses at The School of Visual Arts and acting at Stella Adler. His big break came by coincidence when after recently returning from New York after 3 years, he was chosen to participate in Big Brother, Mexico, the first reality show of its kind in the country and achiever of record ratings. He was runner-up on the show, but clearly the people's favorite. "Rasta", as they came to know him, applied to great advantage the popularity the show gave him and his passion for all forms of communication especially filmmaking which you'll never see him far from a camera or a script.
