Alexander Shaoul / Biography

Alexander Shaoul's uniqueness is clearly seen in almost every activity he participates in; including the frequent washing of his hands. His obsessive compulsive disorder will have him washing his hands with the focus and intensity of landing a jet on an aircraft carrier during a hurricane at night. Yes, he may wash his hands with that intensity but he also watches films the same way. More over, he makes films with this same intensity. Some weaker beings might find his life style exhausting, but Alexander uses his deep energy to create a unique artistic vision.Hunter S. Thompson once described Dr. Gonzo as, "a man to unique to live and too rare to die." Rare is the best word to describe Alexander Shaoul's talent, his vision, and his designs. From an early age, Alexander was fascinated with historic paintings, fine art and antiques. His grandfather, Albert Nemethy senior, was a painter whose art is in every corner of the universe; from the Vatican to the White House. His mother's artistic Hungarian bloodline is shared with Alexander's five Uncles and Aunts, who are all classically trained painter's, who learned this difficult skill from their father, Mr. Nemethy. Alexander's father Jack Shaoul is one of Manhattan's leading art dealers, operating Universe Antiques inc. downtown on Broadway since 1970. Alexander continues the artistic genealogy he was born into by becoming a film maker. His grandfather used paint and a canvas, Alexander uses story and science to project his visions. Every film, story and design that is created from his production company (Strange Cut Films) represents a step forward in filmmaking. By provoking his audience with thought and morality, this young and ambitious Producer/Director quietly develops in our midst, following a similar alley, which echoes with the legendary voices of Chaplin, Wells, Kubrick and Stone. With that said, at the age of 23, Alexander, on the verge of completing his debut independent feature film, has already produced 5 music videos, a variety of cutting edge short's and is beginning production this new year on StrangeCut Studios 1st two stop motion animated short films. These exceptional art projects are being produced simultaneously at the StrangeCut Studio on Broadway in Union square. Alex Shaoul's "End of the Line" is aspiring for a spring premier. This nightmare dark comedy will surely take N.Y audiences by surprise.Aside from his family creating and selling Art, Jack Shaoul is also a veteran N.Y independent movie-maker, forming Long Island Expressway Productions in the late 80's. L.I.E is presenting all the StrangeCut Film productions. Jack has not only supported and encouraged Alexander for he has three sons. Michael and Richard Shaoul are also filmmakers who form with Alex, the Shaoul Bros., a family of artistic integrity and creativity which will soon be seen throughout the Manhattan art scene. From his adolescent teenage years, Alexander has spent his lost youth developing his talent for montage and mise en scene. This young hermit obsesses over the smallest production detail, screens one film a day and has intensity for his work that is so passionate and extreme it can be strange, but inspiring to encounter. A vision that is dark, dangerous, interesting and rare.
