Paul Black was born and raised in London, England. He emigrated to Toronto as a child and moved back to London after university. He has lived in Barcelona, New York and Los Angeles, with time spent in Paris. He studied economics at McGill University in Montreal and psychology at York University in Toronto. He is totally self-taught as a film-maker; never having been on a film set prior to his award-winning UK short "Please!" (starring Gerard Butler); never again until his award-winning US feature debut, "America Brown" (starring Ryan Kwanten, Hill Harper, Natasha Lyonne, Michael Rapaport, Elodie Bouchez and Karen Black).
