A veteran in the Vancouver acting scene, Matthew Smalley has been steadily working his way up the velvet ropes of success. Before hitting the television and motion picture medium, Matt was already a well-known theatre actor. His thespian work includes the acclaimed play "Behind the Fridge", and a Korean war comedy loosely based on "M*A*S*H*", entitled "Loose Cannons." He then hit the background acting scene, making a dent in such shows as "Maybe It's Me" and the upcoming "Lost in Space" and feature films such as "Paycheck", "Miracle" and "X2". He had a starring role in country artist Rick Tippe's video, which was played regularly on Country Music Television Canada and had the lead in a Chevrolet commercial directed by Tony Kaye ("American History X"). The two of them are still good friends to this day, and hope to work on something together in the future. But Matt's big success didn't come until the fall of 2002, when a small independent film directed by Simon Davidson called Moon in the Afternoon (2002) hit the big time and was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival"! Matt never thought that it would blow up like it did and he gained national exposure. After that, in late 2002, Matt had roles in Nettwerk Music artists' Panurge's "Sweet Fanny Annie" video and the role of "Stamos" in Dan Schubert's independent feature "Last Party". These days Matt is on hiatus from the scene, wanting to work full time on developing his craft and spending time with his girlfriend Jenny and his German Shepherd "Joe".
