Sean-Michael Smith was born August 29, 1972, in Bakersfield, California (Born Sean Michael Smith). He has four sisters and one brother, a Sacramento City Fire Fighter. Raised by his actor father Mark Smith, the family moved from southern to northern California, finally settling in Chico, 70 miles north of Sacramento. After high school, Senior Class President Sean-Michael moved to San Francisco to attend August Coppola's highly developed Cinema program at San Francisco State University. He studied back and forth between universities in Sweden and California, finally receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema, a Bachelor of Arts in International Media and Communication Studies, and a Master's Certificate in Sociology. Teaching Business English at Berlitz Language in Stockholm helped prepare Smith for developing his Dialogue Coaching skills. After being cast in a small role in the Peter Stormare / Lena Olin / Mark Hamill vessel HAMILTON, Smith was asked to brush up the English dialogue and became Dialogue Coach. Smith returned to Scandinavia once again, this time to Denmark, to work on Lars von Trier's DANCER IN THE DARK. It would win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in France, as well as Best Actress for it's star, Björk. Smith has recently finished work on Thomas Vinterberg's (The Celebration) first English-language film, IT'S ALL ABOUT LOVE, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Claire Danes, and Sean Penn. Smith currently resides in the Los Angeles area.
