A classically-trained Shakespearean actor, Cal began his career in film at seventeen -- as a supporting character in a short film shot in New York City. Five years later, he moved to Los Angeles. After struggling through various odd jobs, which included reading scripts for production companies and being a background performer in film and TV, he began to work in diverse small roles, playing everything from a Russian mobster to James Dean.In the process of trying to find work as an actor, Cal turned to another one of his passions: writing. His first screenplay, titled "Rubi", surrounded the life of legendary playboy Porfirio Rubirosa. The screenplay was well received, and producer Sergio Aguero commissioned Cal to write his second script, a romantic comedy titled "Lover's Block".That same year, Cal took his first shot at producing, shooting a 35MM short film titled "The Last Race", which he also wrote. The film was shot in nine days in nine separate cities in California, and garnered praise from many in the industry -- including Sherry Lansing, head of Paramount Pictures. As a result of the film, Cal was considered for the role of the Prince in 'The Prince & Me'.A year and a half after his arrival in Los Angeles, Cal caught his first big break as an actor: He played a leading role in an experimental film made for less than a thousand dollars. Based on his performance in that film, Cal was hired to portray the character of Elliott Smithe in "Afterthought" -- a dark and complex role that presented a significant acting challenge.Since "Afterthought", Cal has continued acting and writing. In December 2005, he became engaged to Christy Carlson Romano.
