Gabriel Yared stopped his law studies at the age of twenty to work as a professional music composer. He studied with Henri Dutilleux and Maurice Ohana. He worked as a composer, orchestrator or producer for singers like Françoise Hardy, Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud or Mireille Mathieu. He made his debut in movies in 1980 with the score of Jean-Luc Godard's "Sauve Qui Peut la Vie". He has since then scored a huge list of movies for directors like Jean-Jacques Beineix, Robert Altman, Jean Jacques Annaud and many others. He won an Academy Award for Anthony Minghella's "The English Patient" score and has been nominated for two others ("cold mountain" and "the talented Mr. Ripley"). Gabriel Yared also composes ballets for Carolyn Carlson or Roland Petit. He is also the founder and director of the Pléiade Academy.
