Attended the Beijing Film Academy, Beijing, CHINA
Lived in New York, USA, as a scholar at the end of the eighties.
His film Huang tu di (1984) won awards in Hawaii, Hongkong, Nantes and Locarno in 1985.
His film Da yue bing (1986) won awards in Montreal and Turin in 1987.
His father was also a film-maker.
Member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival 1989
