Yasmine Hannaney jokes that as a daughter of a Middle Eastern doctor and engineer, she was forced to defy severe cultural norms and work in the entertainment industry (instead of becoming a doctor or an engineer). She is a graduate of the Business and Cinema-Television (BCT) program at the University of Southern California.Very proud of her Iraqi heritage, Yasmine was recently chosen as Miss IRAQ and competed in the Miss Asia USA Cultural Pageant. This pageant has gained Yasmine exposure worldwide, especially within Iraq and the Middle East. As a result, Yasmine will go on to compete for the official Miss Iraq title and hopefully move on to the Miss Universe, and Miss World pageants in 2006.Yasmine speaks fluent Arabic and conversational Spanish and also works in film production. She was the first assistant editor and translator on Voices of Iraq, an innovative documentary film where the producers distributed 150 digital video cameras to the people of Iraq.Yasmine is a spokes model for New Balance Apparel (Southern California and Nevada ). As a runway model, Yasmine has modeled for well-known high-fashion Italian, Indian, Lebanese, and American clothing designers. In her free time, Yasmine enjoys visiting her family, practicing Bikram Yoga, jogging, long Italian dinners, learning foreign languages and dances, traveling, and creative writing.
